SasuSaku Month 2017
Day 4: Lean on Me

He was well acquainted with death, with its cruel ways, and
how its hell bent on taking everything away from him. But over time he’d grown
more at ease with life, he didn’t expect death to threaten his happiness again.

Sasuke was a wall away from the two beings he loved most. He
was nervous, afraid, tapping his foot urgently against the floor. He arrived
with Sakura in his arms and practically begged Karin to help her.

She was bleeding, blood dripping down the side of her legs as
she screamed in pain. All he could remember were her tears, the sound of her
crying. “Sasuke, our baby, I don’t want
to lose her.”
He didn’t know what to tell her, so he murmured empty
promises until she was taken from his arms.

“Everything’s going to
be alright.”

It seemed forever until Karin opened the door and turned to
him. Her hardened expression does nothing to lessen his nerves. All he wanted
was to scream. “How’s my wife? How’s my
daughter?”

“Sasuke…only one of them will make it.” The moment Karin
spoke he felt as if he’d been punched in the stomach. “I gave Sakura something
to treat the pain, she’s not in a state in where she can make a decision, it
falls up to you.”

For a moment he was speechless, but the urgency in her eyes
told him it wasn’t the time. He had to be strong, for them. It was an
impossible decision. He knew what Sakura’s choice would have been, but he was
selfish.

He would give his life to save them both if he could.

She would hate him for it, she would never forgive him.

“Sakura…save her.”

It’s not until hours later that she opened her eyes, her
hands fell to her stomach and soon she was breathing heavily. “Where’s our
daughter?” She asked looking around her and Sasuke could only look at her.

Her eyes fall to him and she started crying, sobbing loudly.
He wanted to move to comfort her, but he was frozen in place. “There was a
complication…I decided to save you.”

“My daughter, where is my daughter, give me my daughter!”
She started screaming, crying louder and louder. Against his better judgement
he took the small corpse wrapped up in a blanket and handed it over to her.

“I thought you’d like to say your goodbyes.”

The sight of her, with their dead daughter in her arms was
heartbreaking. Tears rolled down her cheeks endlessly. She placed a hand
against their daughters face. “She looks so much like you, she’s so beautiful…”
She choked on her words.

“My baby, my beautiful baby…” And her voice broke. Sasuke could
feel tears streaming down his cheeks as well, his eyes were blurry but he
blinked the tears away.

“It should have been me…Sarada.”
