He set a fire to her mind the second his hand touched her skin. Sakura couldn’t help but feel the tension building up in the atmosphere around the two of them, but there was also something else there that she knew he wouldn’t acknowledge.

It had been months since she last seen Sasuke, yet here he was, standing partially in front of her with his arm shielding her. Although she hated the idea of his overwhelming feeling to protect her still, she just couldn’t shake the chills that ran through her body.

Sakura still had yet to speak, and although Sasuke still hadn’t looked at her yet, she knew his Sharingan eyes had already melted through obsidian.

Fighting still circled the two of them, even with Madara and Obito dominating in this war, Sakura still had a heart that wouldn’t give up. Even now with Sasuke perched in front of her, one arm still covering her and his opposite hand grasping firmly to the hilt of his Kusanagi, she wouldn’t give up.

Not on the war, and not on Sasuke.

"You’re back…“ she whispered, more so to herself but it was apparent that Sasuke heard her breathless words.

He turned his head slightly and acknowledged her but still had yet to speak.

She could feel her chest clench when his smirk became noticeable and just like that, feelings of love and memories of children playing with kunai and shuriken haunted her.

“Not exactly,” he scoffed. Sasuke was still cocky, still on his high horse and although Sakura could easily snap his arm in two and push her squad forward, she couldn’t shake nostalgic feelings from her body.

It was just like when she was younger and he would put his own body in danger to protect her. Here they were, three years down the road with himself planted firmly in front of her with danger threatening the two of them at any moment.

It was a whirlwind of excitement and anxiety and everything else that Sakura’s body could muster up, and it took everything not to let her heart spill. There was something there that pulled Sakura to Sasuke.

When Sakura came to both feet and readied her fists, she turned her back to Sasuke’s and smiled a determined smile.

“Then you’d better watch your back, Sasuke-kun.”

Because even if they were still enemies, the two of them would never face the fact that whatever transpired between the two of them years ago, it still lived on.
