SasuSaku Month 2017
Day 29: Connected Feelings

Every time he comes home he leaves, but it’s easier watching
him leave than it was the first time. There’s a certainty now that he’ll come
back.

It’s not the life Sakura thought they would have, apart more
often than not. Their child grows up without her father, and they live in a
house far too empty for their liking. His absence is a hole that eats her away and
she wishes they had made the time to get their wedding picture retaken, she
wishes she would have thought to catalogue all the memories they had as a
family, everything Sarada doesn’t remember.

Mostly she wishes he would come back and never leave again.

Their bed is much too cold at night, his side neat and empty
and as she wakes up she reaches to where he should be as a reflex, because in
her dreams he’s never that far away.

The bedroom door opens and Sarada steps inside hugging her
panda bear to her chest. “Can I sleep here, mama?” Sometimes she thinks Sarada
sneaks into her bed more for her benefit than anything else, it should be the
mother that comforts the daughter.

Once in her arms the little girl speaks. “When is papa
coming home?”

Sakura doesn’t have an answer, “When all the monsters are
gone.” She whispers into her Sarada’s hair. “He’ll come back to us, he’ll find
a way because you’re father loves us more than anything in the world.” She kisses
the top of her head, is the only answer she can give her.

She knows he’ll be back, she just doesn’t know when. What if the monsters never end?
