The Lost Prince || Part 2

elizatellsthestory:

Disclaimer: I do not own Naruto or any of characters. I am making no profit off of this and am only writing it for my entertainment. The same goes for the story Anastasia.

A/N: Reminder for those just tuning in, Hiei = Sasuke’s alias. This is probably going to be the most action packed chapter until more towards the end. We’ll see. I have plans. I was foolishly hoping that I’d have this entire AU finished by the end of SasuSaku Month, but that was ambitious and will not be happening because this fic just keeps growing. That being said, I think this chapter would fit nicely under the Lean on Me prompt.

Unbeta-ed.

Chapter 2

Hiei darted through the palace with Kabuto and his lackeys hot on his heels. Portraits and finery sped by him in blurs. Haunting screams fled his mind as every ounce of his being began to focus on escaping. You have to survive. Words that followed him throughout his entire life and urged him on when there was no hope to be had, rang in his head. He was sure he’d never stepped foot in the palace before that day. He should be at a loss for where to go, but every turn he took, every hallway he ran down, managed to put more distance between himself and his pursuers. His feet knew where to take him without hesitation.

Perhaps he should have found it odd that even when he’d turned into an old children’s bedroom, he didn’t panic. Deftly, he picked up a lamp and used the heavy base to smash the window open. A few more hits and the sharp pieces of broken glass clattered to the ground, leaving an opening large enough for him to escape through, but the footsteps were upon the room, and the noise of shattering glass left no question as to where he was.

Day 20: Déjà vu

As Sasuke opened his eyes the surroundings around him were
familiar, reminding him of a time where he’d yet to make as many mistakes. The
white sterile walls and the sun shining through the window made the room feel
bright, it took him a moment until his sight adjusted.

As he tried to sit up in the hospital bed, he couldn’t help
but notice how his remaining hand was cuffed to the bed, as if that would stop
him should he decide he’d want to escape.

Sakura sat in a chair near his bed, her attention was on him
as she set her book away. “How are you feeling?” She asked, the medic in her
taking over, who knew how long he’d been asleep. The last thing he remembered
was her healing him after the battle with Naruto.

“Well.” He replied, a little stiff and disoriented, but he
knew that was probably natural. He turned his gaze toward his cuffed wrist.

“They wanted to take precautions…in case you decided to
leave the village again.” She trailed off before adding, “Naruto insisted it
was not necessary, but holding you here in the hospital over guard beats the
alternative.” Throwing you in a cell.
He could tell she didn’t want to say the words, but there was no need to
sugar-coat it, he was a criminal.

She reached for a bowl nearby and held it over to him, he
just watched her. “You must be hungry.” He struggled against the cuff on his
wrist, as if to remind her he couldn’t take the plate, much less eat on his
own. “Right.” She said, her cheeks turning pink.

She reached into the bowl and held a small slice of apple to
his mouth. Apples. He couldn’t help
but recall a similar scene back when they were children, when everything had
yet to turn completely wrong. He could see her recalling the same instance,
probably half expecting him to turn her away.

Instead he opened his mouth and bit into the slice she held
for him, his lips slightly brushing with her fingers. He ate in silence,
savoring the sweet taste of the fruit and how good it felt to eat after who
knows how long.

“Thank you.” He finally spoke as she handed him another
slice, the shock in her expression lasted only a moment before she smiled, like
she used to smile back then, back before everything went wrong.

Day 21 – Not Everything is Black and White

She beseeches her reputation of being the virtuous and pure member of team seven. She hides her blush with the tilt of her head, and the carefully controlled tone of her voice, “Good morning Sasuke-kun,” she says, quiet and without a give-away to the pain she feels within her left palm. She digs her fingernails into her skin – a last ditch attempt to control her thoughts.

Sasuke answers cordially, then turns to look for whether or not the other members of their squad will show up soon.

It was a reunion – of sorts.

A team lunch, just to catch up. Just to see how things were going. A frivolous formality, if you will, since she knew already what everyone was up to. There were no secrets with their status. Naruto had begun seriously looking into what is required for the role of Hokage. Said Hokage; Kakashi, facilitates that dream and Sasuke – Sasuke.

Sasuke is in the village for three more days. He will leave after that. Once more, once again.

She knows what her team has been up to. So the point of this lunch is moot from her end. But she attends anyway. Its the right thing to do.

“They’re late,” Sasuke mutters, turning to her.

Sakura nods, her voice fails her in any sort of expected response.

SasuSaku Month Day 16 – That Day

efaya:

Rating: T

Pairing: SasuSaku

Summary: Sasuke will always remember that day. The day his daughter was born. The day his wife nearly died. The day he opened himself up to one more being.

A/N: Oh my god. This took way longer than I anticipated… I was planning to have it done days ago. I feel bad being this late with a prompt, but I still hope you guys like it! I really have not proofread this one nearly as well as the others, but I think I could do that tomorrow. It’s so late here, and I need to get up for work soon. I did some research on birth, since I don’t have kids and i’m by no means a medical professional. But yeah, hope you like this fic! (~4000 words)

Day 19: Regrets

Sasuke regretted leaving the
village, every time he came back things were no longer the same way he left
them. Time went on without him and time would continue to go on without him.

He missed his daughter’s first day in the academy, he missed
countless birthdays, countless anniversaries, he’s not sure if he should be
surprised that he missed his daughter’s marriage.

“Boruto is a good man.” His wife told him the night he returned
as she readied herself for bed. Sasuke didn’t think anyone would ever be good
enough for his baby girl, but he hadn’t been around enough to get a say in the
matter.

He was reminded by the wedding picture that Sarada was not
his baby girl anymore, she’s grown and she hasn’t needed her papa in years.

Life had past him by and he had broken every vow he had ever
made to Sakura. I’ll be by your side in
sickness and in health, always. Always.
He had spent more time away than he
spent around. “Who handed her over in the wedding?”

“Kakashi.” She paused before speaking again. “She tried
reaching you, I tried reaching you, but you were uncommunicated for months…” He
couldn’t reproach, they shouldn’t have to put their lives on hold because of
him.

“Just another cornerstone in her life I missed.” He could
hear the regret in his own voice. Sakura took his face in her hands and turned
him to face her a sad smile forming on her lips, she kissed his forehead then,
a small peck before she drew back.

“She understands, dear.” Sasuke nodded stiffly. “Welcome back.”
She added after a moment, her smile turning bright and genuine. For a moment it
was like he was back in time, back in that moment where he decided to come back
with the intent to stay, with the promise of always. Sakura didn’t look a day older, she was the only constant thing
in his life, and the only thing time couldn’t seem to touch.

She drew him in for a kiss and he was finally home, but for
how long?
