Day 22: An Outsider’s Point of ViewKarin woke up startled, the crying of the newest Uchiha heir
could be heard all across the base, it was the fifth time that night that she’d
been woken up by the noise of her crying. She made her way to their room ready
to be of some help to Sakura who had to be beyond tired after having giving
birth and having to take care of her newborn daughter.Karin didn’t expect Sasuke to be of much help, remembering
clearly the cold Sasuke back from Team Takka. It was a surprise when she paused
outside their room and from the semi open door saw as Sasuke took Sarada away
from Sakura’s arms and into his.Sakura explained in a tired voice how to properly hold the
baby, but Sasuke seemed to know how to do it. His hold was firm but gentle as
he rocked her tenderly in his arms humming what appeared to be a lullaby.Sakura smiled from the bed as she watched her husband, her
eyes held none of the shock of Karin’s own expression as she looked at the
scene from a distance. The man in the room was a stranger to her.
In no time at all the Uchiha princess in his arms stopped
crying and softly he set her down in the little crib they had made for her.Karin was about to walk away, clearly she wasn’t needed, but
then she saw as Sasuke walked over to his wife and placed a hand on her cheek.
Sakura leaned in to the touch. Karin felt as if she was intruding and walked
away, but as she did she heard Sasuke speak to Sakura, “I love you.” and those
words resonated around the base and followed her to her own room.

Day 25: Maybe Next TimeNext time he leaves she is there already, waiting. Her back
rests against the trunk of the tree, her arms crossed over her chest as she
turns her gaze to him. He makes note of the backpack at her feet. “Where are we
going?” She asks and Sasuke doesn’t need to ask what she’s doing at the road
out of the village. How did she know? How does she ever know?
It still remains a mystery.
“We?” He asks, although he knows that questioning her is
futile, she is as stubborn as she is inhumanly strong.“I’m not staying behind this time, and don’t even try to knock me out.” He wouldn’t dare,
he starts walking again and makes a motion with his hand for her to follow. “Where
are we going?” She asks again as she picks up her backpack and falls into step
with him.He shrugs, he didn’t have a travel plan in mind. “Where do
you want to go?” He asks her instead.“Everywhere. I want to form new memories together.”

Day 26: Hawk MailSasuke Uchiha is not a fan of the new emerging technology.
Naruto likes to pester him about it, how he can’t use a cellphone and he can,
he just doesn’t like to. There’s an intimacy lost in the technology, it loses
that personal touch that can only be transmitted by a more traditional form of
messaging.Technology will never be able to recreate the creases in the
paper created by the hawk’s delivery. Or the elegant but somehow at the same time
messy handwriting that he recognizes as Sakura’s. It’ll never be enough to
transmit the feeling behind her words as she writes, with love, at the end of every letter and how her pen seems to have
hesitated at the last syllable, wanting to write more.Occasionally there are tea stains on the letters, sometimes
coffee stains, and more rarely stains of food at the paper’s edge. It speaks of
exhaustion, a convoluted schedule or a messy eating companion.Sometimes the letters are divided in sections, and because
of the almost unnoticeable differences in her writing he can tell she wrote it
in the span of a day or a week. Sometimes there’s a P.S. added as an afterthought, most of the times a tale of something
Sarada or Naruto did, these are things he knows she’d like to say to him in
person. So when he messages Sakura he prefers the old fashioned way,
and holds her letters close to heart.

Day 27: The Trek Homelotr au
It took him a while to notice, how her feet moved sluggishly
and her back tense as she walked. Naruto and Kakashi were several steps ahead
followed by Sakura, the huge axe in her back made it hard to see but her side
was stained with blood. In a couple of long strides he was besides her. “I can get
that looked at for you.” He offered, there was a shocked expression that only
lasted for a moment before it was replaced with a defensive stance.“I’m fine, besides we’ll be home soon.” She dismissed him,
he should have left it at that. Arguing with her wasn’t on top of his favorite
things to do, but he should have seen it. “And if I’d ask someone for help it
would be Kakashi.”“Right, but you don’t want anyone else to know you were hurt
and I’m not going to shut up about it until you get that patched up. Either you
get Kakashi to heal you or we take a little detour, get you patched up and be
back behind them before anyone knows we were gone.” She glared at him, she
could be stubborn but he could be even more so.“Fine.” Her agreement came through gritted teeth and he
could tell she was debating on whether to punch him or not.She took a seat on a fallen tree trunk and dropped her axe
to the ground. He reached in his pouch for the medical supplies and knelt
beside her. Carefully he raised the side of her shirt revealing a nasty cut on
her side from a sword. He wiped away the excess of blood and pretended not to
notice as she flinched. Taking the ointment Kakashi had given him he spread it
generously against the injury and reached for the cloth to wrap around her
abdomen.“There.” He spoke, his hand lingering against the skin of
her stomach, his eyes unable to look away from her scarred skin. “When we get
back home, you should ask Kakashi to take a look.” Noticing his fixation she
yanked her shirt down to cover herself. She stood, her back to him as she picked up her weapon and
strapped it to her back. “I’ve had worse.”

Day 29: Connected FeelingsEvery time he comes home he leaves, but it’s easier watching
him leave than it was the first time. There’s a certainty now that he’ll come
back. It’s not the life Sakura thought they would have, apart more
often than not. Their child grows up without her father, and they live in a
house far too empty for their liking. His absence is a hole that eats her away and
she wishes they had made the time to get their wedding picture retaken, she
wishes she would have thought to catalogue all the memories they had as a
family, everything Sarada doesn’t remember.Mostly she wishes he would come back and never leave again.
Their bed is much too cold at night, his side neat and empty
and as she wakes up she reaches to where he should be as a reflex, because in
her dreams he’s never that far away. The bedroom door opens and Sarada steps inside hugging her
panda bear to her chest. “Can I sleep here, mama?” Sometimes she thinks Sarada
sneaks into her bed more for her benefit than anything else, it should be the
mother that comforts the daughter.Once in her arms the little girl speaks. “When is papa
coming home?”Sakura doesn’t have an answer, “When all the monsters are
gone.” She whispers into her Sarada’s hair. “He’ll come back to us, he’ll find
a way because you’re father loves us more than anything in the world.” She kisses
the top of her head, is the only answer she can give her.She knows he’ll be back, she just doesn’t know when. What if the monsters never end?

Summary: Sasuke shows up to her doorstep from his two-year journey.
Sakura is overcome with an impulse at the sight of him.
Disclaimer: I don’t own Naruto.
Prompt: It Was Always You
Rating: K
A/N: Someone sent me an a headcanon in an ask once and I started
writing for it years ago, but it kind of got lost in all my WIPs. I found it
again, and decided it was perfect for this prompt!
I miss you.
That was what he’d written
her last. When Sakura had gotten his
letter all but two weeks ago, she hadn’t been able to believe her eyes. Sasuke,
who was always all about retaining composure and simple fact-telling, slipping
out of habit to send her this one simple piece of paper, containing nothing
more than these three words? These three quiet, heart-exposing, wistful little words? He was never one to admit
such things.(which is why it had hit her so hard.)
But, as she found him there,
standing at her doorstep, shoulders hunched and gaze weighted with a mix of
fatigue and something vulnerable—it made her breath catch. Because she could
see it now; could see those three words written in every inch of his features,
could see how lonely he had been. Could see the relief in seeing her as she was
now, standing right there, in front of his very eyes again. He really had missed her.
Somehow, knowing this, Sakura
couldn’t stop herself from taking those two steps dividing them, gentle fingers
reaching out to twine themselves firmly into his hair as she pushed herself to
the tip of her toes and brought her mouth to his, kissing him deeply. It was a
bold move, she knew. Probably even stupid considering the fact she didn’t even
know with certainty where his heart stood with her—but then his lone arm
slipped around her back, holding her tight as his lips started responding to her
own with equal feeling, and Sakura sighed, melting against him in sweet
contentment.Neither of them made any move
to pull away when they finally parted, breaths fanning warmly against each
other’s cheeks and hands wrapped tightly in each other’s clothes. Too eager to
stay close, not yet ready to part ways once more.(not ready to put distance between them when in these past two
years of redemption, that was all there had been.)“Sakura,” he murmured, at
last, breaking the too-thick silence filled with nothing but their shared warmth
and long-repressed yearning. His brows were furrowed, swept over with sweet,
heavy emotion.Sakura couldn’t explain why
it only made her smile, the softest little laugh tumbling from her mouth. Sasuke’s
mouth curved into a frown at that, brows creasing all the more in clear
bemusement.“Why are you laughing?” he
mumbled, pushing his forehead to her own while his hand dragged her closer. He
sounded puzzled, slightly annoyed—or maybe even embarrassed.Sakura only smiled wider. “Sorry,”
she said, eyes crinkling. “I just—Well, this is our first kiss and it’s so… different
from what I’d imagined it could be through all these years.” She laughed again,
so lightly. “Better.”His features seemed to relax
with this, something like relief curling faintly at his lips.(relief… and satisfaction.)
And then, he said, “Second,”
and it was her brows who furrowed now, green, green eyes meeting his own in
silent query. His gaze softened in return. “That
night, all those years ago,” he went on, quiet, “I couldn’t leave without
taking something of you with me. Without being selfish one last time before
severing all my bonds.”Her heart skipped a beat at
this; breath catching in her throat.“I kissed you on that bench,
Sakura.”.
.
It was always her, she
realized. Even since they were twelve, since he was bent on revenge and running
away towards a dark, lonely path—it was always her.(it was always sasuke-kun, too.)

Day 18 – Comfortable Silence
.
.
There is a time of day after his duties that he enjoys by spending some time at home. Some days he passes the time by gardening. Other times a simple rest on their porch is enough for him. There is no need for any stimulus, he is fine merely listening to the quiet of their neighbourhood.
It is soothing.
A lifetime of turbulence lends oneself to enjoy such moments with a little more appreciation.
Generally he enjoys spending such time by himself, but every now and then he’ll change it up by allowing Sakura to join him.
There is a silent agreement between them; he’d not told her that he wanted to do nothing more than enjoy the quiet, but she had understood anyway for she sits by his side as nothing more than company. She is silent, and warm.
Sometimes he allows her to interlink their pinkies together. A simple gesture, but one that takes some convincing for Sakura to ’go for’. Sometimes he likes to subtlety smirk at Sakura’s still giddy behaviour. She was his blushing bride many years ago and he is pleased to be reminded that not much has changed since then.
During an evening unlike most others, Sasuke once again allows Sakura to sit beside him.
She does not say anything, but peripherally he can see that she is smiling.
It used to bother him how little he had to do to make her happy. A strange insecurity perhaps, but it always played on his mind that despite Sakura’s outward personality, she had never been one for roses, or chocolates, or extravagant gifts of any sort.
He sometimes wondered if she merely acted this way for him.
But she had assured him otherwise.
Sasuke turns to her. Instead of looking onwards to the scenery from their balcony, Sasuke glances upon to his wife’s visage. Feeling his gaze, Sakura turns to him with an expression of questioning.
He doesn’t answer her, not today. Today, Sasuke leans forward and kisses his wife. He hears a soft sound of surprise escape Sakura as their lips touch. He grins into the affection as Sakura begins to reciprocate.
He pulls away perhaps a little earlier than she’d like.
He pulls away, but still remains close. Sakura is a blushing mess, her eyes are bright with excitement. Sasuke’s smirk grows, and upon noticing this, Sakura puffs out her cheeks and lightly flicks his shoulder.
“Jerk,” she mutters in jest.
Sasuke chuckles, and leans in once more.

Day 27 – The Trek Home
.
.
The air that he breathes feels clearer. Its crisp, its different. Every step is not riddled with burden, not any more. He will not forget his role, his duty – but he can come home.
His job, for now, is over.
The old gates of Konoha have seen better days, he passes by the sleeping guard and continues his trek onwards towards his home. The city is a little quieter, most are at work or school during this time. Protocol dictates that he check in with the Hokage before returning home, but for once he decides to break that rule.
There is no harm in that.
He comes before their apartment complex. He begins to climb their stairs. He makes his way to the door marked with no insignia. This is their home – for now.
Unlocking the door, Sasuke steps foot into the flat. He can sense the presence of another; his wife, she is in their bedroom. Without intentionally meaning to be quiet, Sasuke silently makes his way towards the room.
He opens to door, the sight before him freezes him in his tracks. Sakura is changing clothes. She is picking up a shirt and wears nothing more than a bra and panties. She notices his presence immediately.
In a reactionary decision, Sasuke mutters out a nonplussed, “oh”.
Sakura’s eyes widen, she screams, “get out, perv!” she throws her shirt at him, it lands on his head.
.
.
.“I’m sorry,” she holds out a peace offering, she’d made a batch of omusubi (with okaka and tomatoes). Sasuke accepts the offer, he takes a rather large bite out of the rice ball.
Sakura sits on the couch beside him, “I’m really sorry, I thought you were Naruto”.
With his mouth partially full, Sasuke slowly turns to his wife, “…why would you think that?”
“Because you entered the room as I was half-naked”.
His blood begins to simmer, “…and?”
“And,” she purses her lips, “ah, never mind. How do you like the rice ball?”
His grip around the omusubi tightens.
He stands up. As does Sakura.
“Sasuke-kun, no!”
“Don’t worry,” he remarks with an agitated tone, “its not about that, I merely need to check in with the Hokage to notify him of my arrival back, and to officially sign off on the mission”.
Sakura sighs, and folds her arms over her chest, “just bring him, or yourself, round to the emergency room when you’re done”.

Notes: I apologise for the extreme lateness of this story. I had the plot but I’ve been unable to concentrate and at most, I could write a few lines each time I sat down, and suddenly, as I decided to go to bed, frustrated, I got inspired…
There are a couple of references to chapters 2 and 3, I hope you remember them after so long ^^
As always, if there’s something wrong (spaces, brackets…), please, tell me. I hope you enjoy it 🙂

A STEP AT A TIME
Sighing tiredly, Sasuke sat down on his chair, leaning back, closing his eyes and combing his hair back with his fingers. He had just finished his third meeting that day and his head was full of figures, charts and data, all mixed up. He turned his chair and faced the windows behind his desk. From there, he could see most of the relatively near skyscrapers in the financial centre of Tokyo, tall, magnificent with the glass of their windows reflecting the sun.
Fanfic: Remembrance
- This little ficlet was inspired by a (
wonderful) time-travel fic written by @herprettysmile which is titled:Naruto Shippūden: The Legendary Team「伝説的なチーム」. This is based on Chapter Three of her work, but this can be read as a standalone fic. There will be little to no spoilers here.
butcansomeonepleasedrawthatoverlysubtlelittleSasuSakuscenewhenhehelpedherout- The prompt I used is Something More for Day 2. Sorry I’m late. Real life got in the way.
She can’t help but gaze at him. There is something about him that attracts her so. They are only five years old, but she feels a strange connection between them that she can’t ignore. It’s like there is something tugging at the deepest recesses of her mind, prickling at her brain and urging her about something which she truly can’t comprehend.
She stops walking. Naruto and Sasuke continue to trudge in the streets, chattering about something. Sakura can only gaze at their backs, something which makes her heart oddly clench.
When Naruto suddenly runs off, presumably towards a goldfish-scooping booth, she can see Sasuke slowly shake his head at the blond-haired boy’s direction.
She doesn’t say anything, only sneaking glances at him from time to time.
As if sensing her gaze, Sasuke turns to her, raising an eyebrow.
“What is it?” he asks. “Is there something on my back?”
Feeling herself blushing in embarrassment, Sakura quickly shakes her head. “Oh, i-it’s nothing, Sasuke-kun!” she exclaims.
He looks at her for a while before shrugging. “All right. I’m just gonna go to Naruto and make sure that he doesn’t get himself in trouble.”
Sakura swallows as she watches him walk away.
Again, her heart twists.
It’s like he’s going away…
Like he’s starting to walk out of her life…
No. No.
No.
Please–
–don’t leave us again–
–don’t leave me again–
“Ah!”
Sasuke immediately turns around at the sound, his eyes wide in surprise. “Sakura–?”
What meets his eyes is a scene of Sakura tripping on a rock and falling face-down on the ground.
Startled, Sasuke is frozen in his spot, unsure of what he should do or say at the moment.
Meanwhile, Sakura deeply wishes for a hole to materialize on the ground below her and swallow her up.
Tears well up in her eyes. I’m so embarrassed… she moans to herself, not even attempting to pick herself up.
Suddenly, she hears footsteps coming her way. Sakura gingerly lifts her head.
“Hey.” Sasuke, whose hands are inside his pockets, tentatively approaches her. “…are you okay?”
“…I’m okay…” she sniffs, trying to put on a brave front but failing.
Sasuke stares at her, then his face lights up into a smile.
“You say you’re okay, but you look like you’re gonna cry.” Still having that tiny, somewhat amused grin on his face, he extends a hand towards her.
“Come on, lemme help you up.”
Her heart strangely pounds in her chest as she takes his proffered hand.
She has always thought that this is only a little crush, a form of small admiration which started only about a week ago.
But…
It feels like she has loved him far longer than that.
