Cerulean eyes flashed with annoyance. “Oh come on, Sasuke. I can’t bear the heat anymore! We need to cool down ‘ttebayo. Especially you.”
“Then who was the idiot who made me go to this place huh?”
“Me!” A pause. “Hey! I’m not stupid!”
Sasuke did the breathing exercises that calm him down. He needed to, or else he would reduce Naruto to shreds, and that would cause Kushina-san to chase after him. She’s dubbed as the ‘Red-Hot Habanero of Konoha’ for a reason, and the dark-haired teen doesn’t want to have a first-hand experience to know why.
Naruto nudged his side. “It’s your fault you lost the bet. Don’t be a sore loser, teme.”
His reply was a glare. He still couldn’t get over the fact that he lost an arm wrestling competition against his best friend, though he won’t ever verbalize that. If only he won, he could be lounging at his library right now without a care in the world and no loudmouth to annoy him throughout the summer vacation. Now, he’s stuck with the Uzumakis in their villa at the beach a plane ride away from the city. Though the view was great, he was still grumpy over his loss.
“Besides, this café is nice. Not too crowded in the early afternoon, just how you like it you antisocial prince. Remember Gaara’s sister, Temari? She actually owns the place. And I know someone who works here. She makes awesome coffee too.”
Before he could protest any futher, Sasuke was dragged inside. A chime signalled their entrance and the two were greeted with the cool air from the aircon. The first thing that the Uchiha noticed was a girl wearing the café’s uniform with hair the color of cherry blossoms and eyes sparkling like emeralds, smiling at them.
“Sakura-chan!” Naruto exclaimed, running towards the counter, his best friend slowly followed.
How fitting, Sasuke thought.
The pinkette gave the blonde a high five. “Hey Naruto! Long time no see! Back for summer vacation?”
“As always. But now I got Sasuke with me,” he proclaimed, placing an arm around his brooding best friend.
“Ah,” the emeralds turned their attention to onyx who regarded her coolly. “So this is the best friend you keep talking about. I’m Sakura.”
She handed out a hand and he shook it. Sasuke then quickly retracted his hand, trying hard not to dwell on the warmth that came over him unexpectedly. He tried to tune out the conversation of the two until he felt Naruto nudge his side again.
“So what do you want, teme?”
“Expresso,” Sasuke answered curtly.
Pink eyebrows rose. “In this summer heat? Really?”
He directed a glare at her, but she didn’t even flinch. “So?”
To his surprise, she rolled her eyes at him. It was rare for a girl not to fall into his charms and it seems like she’s one of the very few who doesn’t treat him like some sort of ‘heavenly god’ – his fangirls’ words, not his.
“Well, if it’s your thing.” Sakura then turned her attention to Naruto. “Caramel macchiato frost with nachos and cheesy fries still?”
“You know me too well, Sakura-chan.”
“Puh-lease. It’s your go-to order every single time.” After writing their orders down, she chimed, “Wait for 15 minutes okay? Make yourselves comfortable.”
The two found a place at the corner of the room and immediately Sasuke crossed his arms and laid back on the armchair. “If I don’t like the coffee here I’m going home back to Konoha, Naruto.”
Said boy shrugged, not thinking he was actually serious. “That’s your call, Sasuke. But let me just tell you that Sakura-chan’s coffee making skills are the bomb.”
The pinkette appeared with their order a while later, placing them on their table.
“Here you go. Enjoy!” She directed a smile at Naruto which immediately turned into a frown when her eyes landed on Sasuke. He didn’t mind it and simply took his cup of coffee and took a sip.
He felt warm and alive all of a sudden.
.
.
Every day, the duo stopped by for snacks. Sasuke agreed – much to Naruto’s teasing – that the coffee was great and it wasn’t long until they were treated as regulars. But then two weeks before the summer vacation comes to a close, Naruto caught a cold and the Uchiha didn’t want to know why. Not wanting to spend his afternoon beside a sick loudmouth who insists that he’s fine, he found his way to the café. A smirk formed on his face when he saw that he was the only customer there. He didn’t find the pinkette at the counter, only Temari who upon seeing him raised her eyebrow.
“You’re not with the loudmouth brat? Okay then. What would it be this time?”
“The usual,” he answered promptly. The teen then sat at the corner which Naruto and him silently marked as theirs and took out one of the books he brought with him.
Finally, some peace and quiet.
“No. Way.”
Sasuke sighed, his plan to relax obviously failed. He looked up to see Sakura with his order, eyes wide with bewilderment at him – or rather, at his book. She immediately placed the tray on the table and sat across him, still in awe.
“How come you already have a copy of ‘The Shinobi Tales’ fifth book?!” she shrieked.
He placed the book down, slightly amused that her eyes followed it. “My cousin owns the publishing house.”
If possible, her eyes widened even further. “Wow. That was just released last month. It hasn’t even reached here yet.”
To her surprise, he handed the said volume to her. “You can borrow it for now, since you’re practically drooling for it. I need someone to rant with in a particular scene.”
For the first time since they met, Sakura threw her bad first impression of him out of the window. “For real?! Let me guess, it’s about Daichi?”
Sasuke nodded, looking grim. He had no one to vent out his frustration about the series and was pleasantly surprise to found someone who could actually relate.
Sakura looked bewildered for a moment before giggling. Emeralds sparkled with something he never saw before. “You know what, you’re not that bad after all.”
.
.
After that, the two found out they were alike in so many ways, balanced with their differences in other fields as well. Friendship bloomed between them, but despite that, there was something bothering the dark-haired teen.
“Expresso again, I assume?” Sakura inquired. He gave a nod at that. Before she could speak again about his order, he cut her off.
“Why won’t you call me by my name?”
Jade eyes widened. She started fidgeting with the ballpen in her hand, a telltale sign of her nervousness. “You noticed, huh? Umm… it’s because I don’t know what suffix I should use for you.” He raised an eyebrow at that. “I mean, I know you a bit well not to add a –san but not close enough to just call you by your name.”
Sasuke couldn’t help but roll his eyes at that. “I actually don’t care. Use whatever you like.”
“Sasuke-kun?”
He tried to ignore how his heart stopped for a second upon hearing her rather shy voice saying his name with the affectionate suffix.
“Is it okay… if I call you Sasuke-kun?” A faint blush dusted her cheeks, and he tried to calm his heart that was racing a mile a minute and utterly failing. The lad just knew that he would end up a stuttering mess if he ever spoke now, so he just nodded in agreement. She beamed at that, clutching her hands together in happiness.
“Sasuke-kun,” Sakura spoke with more confidence. “Well, Sasuke-kun, should I go prepare your expresso and clubhouse sandwich now?”
He couldn’t help but smirk. “If it takes more than ten minutes I’m not gonna pay for it.”
She heard the teasing tone and just stuck out her tongue to antagonize him. It had the opposite effect, for it amused him instead.
.
.
Before, Sasuke wished for the days to pass quickly so that he could go back home, but now all he wanted was for time to slow down instead. He tried to deny it, but he looked forward being with Sakura. She was unlike any other he met and despite the short time they’ve been together he felt like they’ve known each other for so long already.
It was rare to find someone that makes you feel like you found something you never knew you needed.
His steps felt heavy when he entered the café… probably for the last time in a while. He already planned on coming back next summer, but those days seem too far away. Sakura smiled upon seeing him, nodding to indicate she already prepared his preferred meal.
He went to his seat and not a while later she came towards him. “You’re alone again? Where’s your best friend?”
Sasuke sneered. “Kushina-san had company and prepared a big feast. The dobe fell asleep right after, being his pig self. I think he’ll come here later though.”
She nodded, amused. “Right. It’s the last day of vacation after all.”
His heart sunk at that. When she laid his order on the table, he lowered his head and sighed heavily, catching her attention.
“It was nice meeting you, Sakura. You’re actually the only good thing that happened this summer,” he grudgingly admitted.
His heart swelled when he heard her laugh. “Should I be flattered? And why do you sound like it’s gonna be the last time we’ll see each other?”
Sasuke looked up suddenly and couldn’t stop the confusion that appeared on his face. Upon seeing that there was no customer aside from him, she took the seat across his. Her eyes sparkled as she revealed her plans excitedly.
“I’m actually going to Konoha University. I just got the news yesterday that got a scholarship there under Tsunade-sama’s tutelage!”
Onyx widened at that. “You’re actually that good?” he asked with a teasing tone.
She punched his arm playfully. “Hey! Don’t underestimate me! I’m the top of our class for a reason you know. You’re not the only one running for high school valedictorian,” Sakura answered with a smile.
A silence ensued, but there was no awkwardness in it, only anticipation for the future. “So, see you in spring, Sakura?”
She gave him a radiant smile that makes the summer’s sun dull in comparison. “Yeah. See you, Sasuke-kun.”
SasuSaku Month Day 16 Title: And In The Morning There Are Birds Prompt: Sparks Rating: M Day’s Notes:Sasuke-centric as usual; mentions of some symptoms of depression; rating is due to minimal sexual content
He woke with the sound of chirping birds ringing in his ears.
Blinking his eyes open, Sasuke inhaled deeply and stretched his limbs. His legs dangled off of the couch and he wondered if Sakura could be convinced to change her loveseat in her office to something larger.
He turned onto his back and stared at the ceiling tiles. As soon as the ringing was gone from his ears and the world became silent again he started to count.
One…
Two…
Three…
Four…
The door opened with a click and Sakura creeped into her own office carrying a cardboard box full of folders.
If it weren’t for the way Sakura would try to sneak in to get work done, Sasuke would think she knew exactly when it was that he woke up from his nap. She always arrived seconds after he woke up on his own.
“Hey sleepyhead.”
Sakura squatted down so that she was eye level with him ran her fingers through his hair, massaging his scalp as she did so.
“I’m just going to look over some cases if you want to keep sleeping.”
Sasuke watched as she made her way to her desk. She set her box on the desk and smoothed her lab coat under her thighs as she sat down.
The clacking of the keyboard keys and the sound of her sleeves rubbing against the desk surface as she wrote lulled him back to sleep.
Warning(s): One spoiler from season 1 of One Punch Man
…
Saturday Night 11:00 pm
“So now that my parents are asleep upstairs…I guess we can watch One Punch Man.” Sasuke, wearing a pair of black cotton pants with a matching sleeveless undershirt that exposed his toned biceps, which resulted in him catching Sakura staring at them.
“Done staring?” He asks in an amused tone, his mouth raised in a smirk.
“O…um yeah, I mean gomen Sasuke-kun, I didn’t mean to stare, it’s just that I never knew you were so huge-…you know what? Nevermind.” Sakura hurriedly takes a seat on the couch as Sasuke puts Netflix on the flat screen television. He then takes a seat next to her and relishes in the way how her body tensed when he pulls her close to him.
Sakura was positive her entire body temperature has risen when she felt Sasuke’s arm behind her waist. It’s a good thing she was wearing a light full-sleeves pink nightgown with a pair of beige pajama pants. Otherwise Sasuke would see her entire skin burning in a pink shade from the close proximity.
Deciding to be more bold, he leans down to her level and then lifts her chin up with 2 fingers to kiss and then whispers in her ear “I really like your hair down.” He then kisses her head and then presses the play button on the remote to let episode 1 play.
5 episodes later and Sasuke was not at all amused, he didn’t understand what was so funny that caused Sakura to laugh so many times. He did feel pity for Speed o Sound Sonic when he got harshly kicked between the legs from Saitama. And even at that moment his hand automatically moved to cover Sakura’s eyes from that cringe worthy scene.
“I think we should call it a night, we still have finals to study for.” He closes the television, and then gives her a hand, which she easily accepts. She then let’s out a yelp when Sasuke brings their mouths in a soft, long kiss. “Good night.” He smiles when he lets go, and in response she simpers and kisses him on his cheek as she goes into the guest bedroom.
Sunday Morning 9:30 am
Sakura woke up from hearing a loud knock, “Sakura-chan it’s time for breakfast!”
“I’m awake Uchiha-san, just give me 10 minutes to get ready!” Sakura sits up from her bed to rub her eyes.
“Take your time, it’s only us two in the house.”Mikoto reassures her.
“Ah thank you.” Sakura appreciates the fact that she can come out in her night clothes. She then heads to the bathroom to do her usual morning routine.
When she got out of the bathroom, she quickly combs her hair and sets it in a half up twist adorned with a fancy flower comb. For clothes she wears a pastel pink t-shirt and a white ankle length skirt. Although it was super hot, Sakura still chose to dress modestly because she didn’t want to leave a bad impression on Sasuke’s parents.
When she got out of her bedroom, she could smell the aroma of Dashi (fish broth) coming from the kitchen.
“Ohayo Uchiha-san.” Sakura greets the mother of her boyfriend, who in turn responds with the same words and adds, “You look so lovely Sakura-chan.” She smiles at her, which made the pink maiden blush. “Is there anything I can do to help?” Sakura asks, wanting to help and not feel useless.
“Of course, how about you make 20-30 o-musubi (rice balls) before my husband and Sasuke return in a half an hour, you think you can handle it?” Mikoto challenges her, to which Sakura accepts with a smirk “I’ll have each of them neatly wrapped with nori (seaweed wrap) in 20 minutes.”
“I’ll be looking forward then.” Mikoto promises by giving her a wink.
5:00 pm
Breakfast had gone by rather smoothly, it was now 5:00 and it was so hot despite it being only mid April, that all Sakura wanted to do was jump in a swimming pool. She was simultaneously reviewing her hand-written detailed notes and outlines on the procedures of heart and brain surgeries while cooling herself with a paper fan. Sasuke on the other hand was composed while reading and taking notes from his computer engineering textbooks without breaking a sweat. She took a double take at him and noticed that he was wearing reading glasses, which oddly made him look attractive in them.
“What?” He asks, noticing that she was staring at him.
“It’s nothing really, just my first time seeing you in glasses.” She truthfully tells him.
With a hum, he simply resumes his studying as does she. There would be plenty of time for idle chat after graduation.
9:30 pm
Sakura decided to call it a day, she gets up from the her that she was sharing from Sasuke’s desk. As she stands she felt a cool spring-like breeze past through her from Sasuke’s windows, and relishes it. She then grabs her books and tucks them back in her roll on bag.
Sasuke on the other hand was sill engrossed in his studying, so she quickly tells him “Ne Sasuke-kun I’m going out for a walk” which caused him to give her his entire attention to her. “Where?” He demands, she wants to take a walk this late at night?
“Its’s just on the sidewalk, your mom told me if I felt like taking a stroll she gave me the okay!” She reassures him that she won’t go far off. “Besides, it’s been so hot all day that I wanna enjoy this nice weather.”
In response he pokes her forehead, “Annoying.” He turns around and closes his books before he tells her, “Give me two minutes.” As he heads to the bathroom with a black dress shirt in his hand. When he comes out of the bathroom, Sakura couldn’t help but blush at how handsome he looked in all black. He was also wearing a silver bracelet. Before she asks him why he changed he beats her to it by telling her “I’m taking you out to dinner tonight, so go change.”
With a nod, Sakura scurries into her guest bedroom.
She comes out in five minutes wearing a long simple white maxi dress, a pair of ivory sandals, and her hair twisted in a side braid. Sasuke who was sitting on the living room couch, stands up and smirks in approval. He also notices Sakura carrying her Fullmetal Alchemist wristlet wallet with a picture of Alphonse in his iron suit, which only made him chuckle. His girlfriend really was adorable.
“Shall we?” He offers her his arm, which she accepts and together they head out on their very first date.
SasuSaku Month 2018 – Day 13: Summer Heat Rating: T+ (Language) Context: Non-massacre, non-shinobi AU A/N: Thank you for reading and I hope you like it! Here’s the previous prompt,Day 12 (Dinner).
Sasuke was carrying a bucket of paint and a tray of brushes the first time he saw her. He blinked several times to make sure his eyes weren’t playing tricks on him. Pastel pink hair and alluring green eyes. She was talking animatedly with his uncle Obito near the front gate of the house as she swept her strangely colored hair up into a ponytail. Since he had his earphones in, he failed to hear what she was saying, but whatever it was it had his uncle howling with laughter with the way he was bending over and slapping his knee. It honestly looked like he was dying from oxygen deprivation.
Whatever the girl said couldn’t have been that funny, he thought to himself, almost annoyed.
He forced himself to look away and kept walking towards the end of the fence where he was supposed to start painting first. When his uncle had convinced his parents to let him stay for the summer, to clear his head before college began, Sasuke hadn’t expected to be put to work. Obito had bought an old house in a nice, quiet neighborhood on the outskirts of Konoha and had decided to renovate it as a summer project. So, honestly, he should have suspected he’d be used for free labor by his eccentric uncle. The only thing that had kept him from driving back home was that Obito had promised to teach him some martial arts, which is something his mother had forbidden him from learning when he was younger.
The next time he saw the girl with the pink hair, he was driving through downtown Konoha one afternoon. Obito had sent him to pick up something or another at the store like a little errand boy. He just happened to take a glance to the right at a stop light and saw her spinning on her tiptoes as easily as a breath of air. She was in a dance studio, alone. The passionate expression on her face caught him off guard. He couldn’t deny she was one of the most beautiful girls he had ever seen. Which is why he grumbled to himself and sped out of there before anyone caught him staring. Sasuke was not in the habit of letting girls catch his eye and he did not plan to let it happen.
He arrived back at the house thoroughly annoyed, threw the shopping bag on his uncle’s table, and holed up in his room. He slipped in his earphones and spent the next couple hours trying to put that girl out of mind. He tried so hard that he ended up falling asleep to the image of sparkling viridian eyes, nonetheless.
It was almost a month into his stay when he ran into her again. Obito had left him a to-do list of things that needed to be done while he went into town for a few hours. Sasuke called bullshit because his uncle had been gone since early morning and he was stuck cleaning the stinky gutters as the sun blazed on mercilessly. Sweat trickled down his neck right down to his shirt, making it stick to his body uncomfortably. The heated up metal of the ladder he was standing on wasn’t helping the situation. He groaned in protest and decided to scoop one last patch of gutter gunk before calling it quits. Not even the music blasting through his earphones was helping him put the summer heat out of mind. He let the ball of gunk fall to the ground carelessly, where he could then pick it up better, when his ladder shook roughly and almost toppled him over.
Sasuke cursed loudly and looked down trying to find the source of the disturbance. His eyes widened in shock when he saw pink muddied locks, then a furious face with green eyes shooting daggers at him. He ripped the earphones off and quickly climbed down.
SasuSaku Month 2018 – Day 12: Dinner Rating: T+ (Some language) Context: Non-massacre AU A/N: Thank you for reading and I hope you like it!
From the minute she woke up, rushed to the bathroom once she realized she had forgotten to set her alarm the previous night and tripped over a pair of shoes, Sakura knew it was going to be one of those days. She jumped into the shower and got a face full of freezing cold water, to which she proceeded to choke on for a couple of seconds. Snatching whatever she could find, she dressed quickly and flew out the window of her bedroom and headed straight to the hospital for her shift that actually started 15 minutes ago. She prided herself on her punctuality – for she had to have an unblemished record thanks to the irritating Council members that were looking for any excuse to discredit her status as Chief Doctor at the Children’s Clinic. One mistake, one slip up, could cost her everything she had worked so hard for.
Needless to say, she was given a stern lecture from one of the old fossils and handed a mountain of folders that had to be filled and dated by the end of her shift. She scoffed and made her way to her office with a large damper on her mood. Sakura had pulled a double shift the day before and had only achieved four precious hours of sleeps, so her patience was running dangerously low. One small mercy, however, was that she had no scheduled patients to see and if there were no village threatening crisis on the horizon, she’d be able to hide in her office.
An hour into staring at tiny letters on various pieces of paper, Sakura felt the beginnings of a migraine lurking at the back of her head. She set the papers down and was about to go in search of a fresh cup of coffee when a soft knock tapped against the door.
Please, don’t let it be anyone important, Sakura prayed. “Come in.”
Beautiful, silk black hair was the first thing she noticed poking through as the door opened slowly. The second was the warm smiling face of Mikoto Uchiha. Sakura stood up quickly, patting down her clothing slightly in hopes of looking more presentable, and walked around her desk.
“Saku-chan,” Mikoto greeted her. She hugged Sakura lovingly. “I’m so glad I was able to catch you. You’re always busy.”
“Hello Mikoto,” Sakura greeted her back, smiling in return.
“Honestly, they’re working you to the bone, my dear,” frowned Mikoto. “Sasuke’s been telling me about your endless amount of shifts and side missions. Those old coots don’t even leave you time to have dinner with your boyfriend’s parents. Quite rude, if I say so myself.”
Sakura stared at her puzzled. While it was true that she’d been pulling a couple of double shifts here and there, she hadn’t had a mission in months now at the request of the Hokage. Something about needing her skills more at home than in a simple mission abroad. Her puzzlement gave way to just a tiny bit of anger. Sakura never thought she’d see the day when Sasuke would willingly lie to his mother, but did he have to get her involved?
In a split second decision, she opted from calling out his lie and went along with whatever Mikoto was saying. She stored every piece of information and started plotting ways to make Sasuke cave and explain this whole mess to her before she really became angry. She couldn’t deny that she was curious, though.
“Please do say you’ll come for dinner tonight, Saku-chan?” Mikoto asked with a tiny pout. “Fugaku and Itachi actually have a day off today, so they would love to see you too!”
When it came right down to it, Sakura couldn’t refuse Mikoto any more than she could refuse petting a puppy. This woman treated her like a daughter, more so ever since she and Sasuke had made their relationship official a year ago.
“Of course, I’ll come,” smiled Sakura. “You know I can’t refuse your cooking.”
Mikoto laughed gleefully and patted her cheek. “You’re such a sweetheart, Sakura. My son better not let you go or I’ll never speak to him again.”
Sakura blushed and let out a rather embarrassed laugh. “The things you say, Mikoto.”
“I’m just telling the truth,” she grinned. “Dinner should be ready by six, so come by around 6:30, okay? Alright, I better get going and let you go back to work.”
“I’ll be there,” Sakura assured her.
“I can’t wait.” Mikoto pecked her cheek and gave her a hug before leaving the office.
Work completely forgotten, Sakura plopped back into her chair trying to figure out why Sasuke would say those things to his mother. She’s been having dinner with them once every month for years now, even before getting together with Sasuke, since they were part of the same genin squad. It’s been two months since she’s been at the Uchiha Compound due to her lately hectic schedule. She’d asked Sasuke to send her sincerest apologies to his family and he’d always tell her that it was okay. Thinking about it now, she wondered what else Sasuke had been lying about. That thought alone unsettled her. She’d never had doubts about him before and he was as honest as they came.
“What the hell’s going on, Sasuke-kun?” Sakura asked herself, temper flaring.
Her thoughts were put on hold, however, as a nurse came flying into her office and announced in a panicked voice that a small team of ANBU had been brought it with severe injuries. She was the only one on staff that had the clearance to work with ANBU and was therefore ushered away.
Sakura spent seven grueling hours in surgery fixing and mending each one of them. She wasn’t sure if it was luck or skill that kept any of them from dying on her surgery table, but she was grateful nonetheless as she finally stripped her bloody gloves off. Shizune had stepped in to help with the post-op and sent her with strict orders to go lay down. Sakura stumbled out of the ICU and miraculously made it back to her office without passing out. She crashed on her couch and clenched her eyes tight as an overwhelming wave of nausea rolled over her due to chakra depletion. She allowed herself a couple of minutes to try and even out her labored breathing. When she finally opened her eyes, she shot up from the couch with a curse.
A lone figure walks on the streets of a small village in the middle of the night. Ebony strands of hair sway with the wind as its owner sighs when the cold air hits his face. He and his significant other left this community just this morning to continue with their travels, but due to certain circumstances, he’s back again. Going to a familiar direction towards the house where they stayed for a while, he’s hoping the person he seeks could help him with his mission.
Uchiha Sakura – his very pregnant wife – wanted candied tomatoes. At two in the morning.
He wanted to say no, but the renowned medic used her big doe-like eyes the color of fields in spring and then uttered the words ‘it’s not just for me, our baby wants it, anata’ that will forever make him go to the ends of the earth for. Thus he found himself sending a clone back to the village, for come hell or high water he would never leave his better half and their unborn child in the middle of a forest at night where threats may linger. He won’t let any danger harm his family. Never again.
Knocking on the door of an elderly couple who sells candies and sweets, he wondered if they were still fast asleep, but the sudden source of light inside and the sound of footsteps told otherwise.
“Sasuke-san? Is that you?”
He nodded. “Haruo-san, did I disturb you?”
The man shook his head and opened the door widely for him to enter. “It’s nothing, it’s nothing. Come in! Is something wrong?”
The clone took off his cloak and boots. He entered the warm home and Haruo quickly led him to the kitchen where his wife was waiting.
“Eri-san,” Sasuke stated with a slight bow in greeting.
“Sasuke-san! You’re back!” The old lady stood up from her seat to come nearer to him. “Did something happen? Where’s Sakura-san?”
The shinobi took their offer to sit down. The couple then took a seat in front of him, side by side. “With my original self. This is a clone.” He took a deep breath before he started with his request. “I’m sorry if I disturbed you this early –“
“You really didn’t, Sasuke-san,” Haruo cut him off. “Eri and I are sometimes awake this time to make our sweets.”
The young man nodded in understanding. “I hope that you could help me with something,” Sasuke began, urging himself to think that the faint heat on his cheeks was from the cold. “My wife… wanted candied tomatoes.”
The duo looked at each other for a moment before wide grins formed on their crinkled faces. They turned their attention to their guest who waited for their reply.
“Sakura-san’s pregnancy cravings, I assume?” Eri marvelled.
“Aa. I don’t know if I could find it anywhere or if it even exists, but I thought maybe you could help me make one?”
Haruo stood up to place a hand on his shoulder. “Of course, Sasuke-san! Anything for the saviours of our village!” His wife then rose from her own seat and started opening cabinets to start working.
The couple then moved in sync; Eri preparing the pots and pans while her love prepared the sugar and tomatoes. Sasuke positioned himself behind them, noticing that their teamwork is perfect.
The two elderly chuckled, and it was then that Sasuke realized that he said his words out loud. “It comes with years of being together, Sasuke-san,” the elderly man replied. “Slowly, your minds are hearts are so connected you don’t even need words to let the other know of your feelings and intentions.”
“But communication is still one of the best foundations of a strong marriage,” Eri added. “As well as trust, loyalty and love.”
They continued to give the young man advice, and Sasuke all took them to heart. The talk then focused on his current errand, to which the two commended him.
“I remember when Eri used to wake me up early in the morning too,” Haruo remarked. “I had to bake cakes and bread even when I was half asleep!” His wife laughed heartily at the memory.
“Sorry for making you suffer, Haru-kun.”
The man just bumped her shoulder with his. “Don’t be. I promised to you that I’ll treat you like a princess, right?”
Sasuke allowed a small smile on his features upon seeing their interactions. An image then formed on his mind – an older version of him and Sakura, still together with all their wrinkles and white hair. The thought then warmed his heart. He never thought he could care for another person like this, doing things his previous self wouldn’t even think of. He never thought he could have this chance of spending the rest of his life with the woman he loves who loves him back, and he is more than grateful for it.
When the work of covering the tomatoes with sugar and caramel was done, they allowed it to chill quickly inside the refrigerator. Not long after, they were already set, and Sasuke finally gave a smirk of satisfaction.
After placing the sweets carefully in a box, the couple led him to the door. Upon securing his cloak once again, he turned to the couple to express his gratitude once again. “Arigatou, Haruo-san, Eri-san.”
“You’re welcome, Sasuke-san. You and Sakura-san are welcome anytime here.” Eri then handed him a bento box. “This is a little something for you and your wife. Take care of yourself and your family, okay?”
Haruo also presented a canister to him, placing it in the bag where the bento was placed. “And this is hot herbal tea for you two. We’re wishing you a lifetime of happiness.”
With another grateful nod, he began his return journey, the owners of the house waving at him until he disappeared from his sight. The man wrapped a gentle arm around his wife’s shoulders. They shared a smile before going back inside the comfort of their house, preparing for the day’s work of making sweets.
On his way back to their camp, he found another of his clone coming towards him, carrying a box labeled with ‘umeboshi’ . They looked at each other’s packages, nodding in relief that they somehow found what they were looking for despite the unreasonable hours of the morning.
The two then quickly made their way back to the original who sat beside Sakura – now fast asleep again – waiting for them to arrive. The clones then laid the food near him and then disappeared with a poof, their missions fulfilled.
Sasuke slowly shook his wife’s shoulders to wake her up. Sleepy eyes looked at him and with all the love and care in the world, he helped her get up and sit upright. Emeralds sparkled upon seeing her newest cravings right in front of her.
“Anata, you really got candied tomatoes and umeboshi?” Sakura exclaimed in bewilderment. Upon seeing her radiant smile, the male Uchiha felt a surge of pride rush through him.
“Of course. Anything for you.”
She gave him a quick kiss. “Arigatou, Sasuke-kun. Aka-chan and I are very happy right now,” she proclaimed, rubbing her swelling tummy. He gave her one of his rare, genuine smiles in return, placing a hand on top of hers.
Sakura happily munched on her midnight cravings, Sasuke’s eyes softening while looking at his wife. Sleep is now far from his mind. He didn’t want to, for his reality is now finally better than his dreams.

🌘 Day 11 – Eclipse). This is unedited, so please be gentle
For the life of him, he couldn’t remember how they ended up in this position. Sure, he knew how they got to this site. Navigating a known trail between two villages, they veered off the beaten path to rest near a stream, surrounded by the impossibly tall trees in Maboroshi Forest. The next hour or so was spent eating a light lunch and cooling off in the shade the trees provided. Taking stock of inventory and a few other mundane things took up the rest of the time. But how did they end up here?

“You do realize the implications of your actions, don’t you?” Fugaku questioned, his voice bleeding in well concealed agitation. “Has this been anyone else, I would have struck them down already! As rulers, it is our duty to ensure all our people follow the treaties that have been enacted by the Higher Council and our own to guarantee peace between all supernatural beings.”
Sasuke stared at his father with a near emotionless expression as he paced the floors of his office back and forth. He sat on a chair, immobile, and let him lecture. His mother sat on another chair next to him and gave him a reprimanding look that looked unusual on her always smiling face. Itachi on the other hand stood next to the door, leaning on the door frame, and kept quiet.
“Furthermore, the Council of Angels is demanding punishment for your insolence and they will not be silenced or appeased for very long. They hold too much influence, I’m afraid, so punishment is what they’ll have,” Fugaku ended. His hard features morphed into a tired and worn expression. Sasuke did feel bad for having caused so much trouble for his parents, but he could not bring himself to apologize. Not when it meant apologizing for meeting his soulmate.
“Things are complicated, Sasuke,” his mother began softly, “and we certainly don’t want to dictate who you can and can’t see.”
“You could have chosen anywhere else to do this and it wouldn’t have been a complication, but this party was the last place for such frivolity,” Fugaku added. “Do you understand what this could mean for us, son?”
“The Council of Angels have been looking for any excuse to bring charges against us, father,” Itachi stepped in. “If you recall, in the ancient times, angels and demons were in constant war with each other. Unlike us, they haven’t let go of old grudges and prejudices.”
“But why her?” Fugaku demanded frustratingly.
“Because she’s my soulmate!” Sasuke finally snapped. He leapt from his seat and stood face-to-face with his father, who froze in shock. “I don’t give a fuck what she is, only that I love her and I am not going to let her go.”
The silence in the air was palpable. No one dared to break the stillness of the room as Sasuke’s words truly sunk in. Fugaku closed his eyes in defeat, sighing, and pinched the bridge of his nose. Mikoto rose from her seat and kissed the cheek of her youngest son before enveloping him in a loving embrace. Itachi looked on, smirking.
“No, my son, you cannot let her go,” agreed Fugaku. “Besides, it seems like your souls have already recognized each other.” He pointed to the silvery tattoo on his wrist that used to be all black.
“We shall speak to the councils,” Mikoto smiled reassuringly. “There are ancient laws regarding the protection of soulmates that must be abided, no matter the race.”
“Trust in mother and father, little brother,” Itachi chuckled and stepped away from the door. “They are the King and Queen of the Underworld for a reason.”
True to their word, his mother and father spoke with their council and petitioned a hearing at the Higher Council to state Sasuke’s intentions of seeking his soulmate, regardless of their differences. Sasuke could barely contain his need to march right up to those damn arrogant angels and taking back Sakura. The crystalline tear drops running down her cheeks as her brethren dragged her away from his arms was burned into his mind and filled him with rage.
The days since have dragged on. His parents have been caught up in their duties and other meetings that he hasn’t been able to sit down and talk with them. Not even Itachi had been spared for any free time, therefore, he’s taken to training. After taking care of any duties that came up, Sasuke would disappear for hours at a time in the late afternoon and well into the night. His mind was filled with too much chaos concerning his situation and the restlessness was making his inner demon very irritable.
Without saying a word to anyone of his whereabouts, he’d slip into the forest and walk for miles until he reached a small clearing near the center. A small pond was etched into the ground under a dark brown oak tree. The waters were quiet and rippled on occasion as the energy from the moon pushed and pulled them. Tiny specs of shimmering light crept up the sides underneath the pond, making it a betwitching sight. Sasuke trained ruthlessly under the pale moonlight until he could no longer feel his limbs and ended up collapsing on the ground, breathing heavily from exertion.
It was as he lay there on the cool, dewy grass staring up at the star-filled veil of the night that his heart beat against his cage the hardest. He wished he could be wherever his Sakura was… The loneliness was eating at him and he wasn’t sure how much more he could take of this before he ended up doing something he would regret.
A/N: This is written a style that isn’t my usual and won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, but I like it for this and hope you do as well. Lastly, this is set in the pre-Shippuden time skip.
She had willed herself to forget, begged her mind to wander, but she couldn’t forget the anniversary. Not now. Not when the silvery evidence of Moonrise shone so clearly on her skin…
Her body went rigid. The pain was coming back, thoughts of him were coming back. It had been exactly twenty-nine days since her Lunatic dream had last invaded her mind. Since he had invaded her mind. Since she had allowed herself to think of him, …to feel anything at all.
She decided it was the Moon causing her insane dreams—that was it. That had to be it. Seeing the Full Moon simply reminded her of him….
Because he was the Moon.
Solid.
Strong.
Pale.
Devastatingly beautiful.
Untouchable.
Unreachable.
Encased only by a halo of darkness.
Covered in craters, wounds of the past.
Never to be fully healed.
Only to be further mottled and marred.
Surrounded by bright lights longing to illuminate his constant Umbra.
But unable to touch those radiant stars.
…
…
…
He was the Moon, but so was she.
…
…
…
Her fingers reflexively curled inward, nails poised to cut crimson Crescents into her palms, but she caught herself and flung them out in a quaking fan.
No.
She wouldn’t resort to that. She she’d sworn after his last apparition that she wouldn’t allow him to interfere. Not again (not even in her nightmares). And she had prepared for this, after all: she had acquired a silver bullet to keep the Moon at bay. She emptied the contents of a small bottle in her trembling hand, weighing (medically, scientifically, practically…) how many it would take to knock her out cold, to wave away any chances of dreams….
—
She felt him there; she didn’t sense the proximity of his chakra—no! She felt his body on hers, his lips on hers, his fingers twining with hers.
She slowly unlidded her dazed, anesthetized eyes.
He withdrew (for just a moment) to give her a handsome smirk, and she was dazzled. The charcoal depths of his eyes, the way his pale face reflected the Moonlight—was the Moonlight…. It wasn’t fair how beautiful he was, it wasn’t fair for any one man to be able to incite such lust in her! It wasn’t fair that she should hate him for all the pain he caused her…yet all she could do was love him in that moment.
A sure hand slid up her bare thigh and under the loose, white shirt in which she slept, gliding over her cool stomach with born grace. His air-soft lips gently skimmed over her neck, constricting her breathing with the touch of a feather. She cried out softly and tilted her head back, begging for more of his awakening touch, begging to feel something again.
Years and months and weeks and days and hours and minutes and seconds of pain and the agony of nothing had worn her…. So she succumbed.
To her fear, her anger, her guilt, her lust, her love.
She let the waves of emotions roll over her, yet she didn’t drown as she had expected. She stayed gently afloat, hovering placidly above rage and hate and fright and blame. She would give to him whatever he asked, so long as he continued to bring life back into her veins.
A dream. Can I only feel alive in a dream…?
The thought didn’t quite hit her, just drifted serenely above her head, and she didn’t care anymore. She just wanted to feel life again, and his hot touches seared her with sensation. His knuckles flowed leisurely over her neck as he charily held himself above her petite frame, cognizant of his mass. His lips caressed hers so chastely, so delicately, they wouldn’t have broken the thinnest thread of silk, left a spider’s web unmarred.
He was far gentler than she remembered…but he was in her dreams, after all.
She kissed him back, but so tentatively, so faintly, for she thought the slightest movement would wake her into her nightmarish reality, would dispel her Moonlit dreamland. Her lips made another contact with his, and she couldn’t help but deeply inhale his scent, a breath of life.
Dreams, it occurred to her, didn’t all have to be nightmares (or so she desperately hoped).
She carefully wrapped an alabaster arm around his neck and brought him down on her, threading her fingers through his dark hair. She tightened her grip on the hand around hers. For just a moment, she resisted allowing their mouths to collide, but she disregarded whatever thought had stopped her and let their bodies meld, his long hair dusting her forehead and cheeks.
She hadn’t been touched in so long, let alone kissed (ever). But it felt so perfect, and she knew she had to be dreaming (but she didn’t quite notice). He felt so natural, so masterful above her. She let him guide her lips with his until she found a soft, delicate rhythm to follow. She felt his tongue deftly flick across her bottom lip, and she parted for him with a low keen, reveling in the heat of his body, his mouth. She traced her dainty fingers over her love’s strong shoulders, imprinting her hallucination into her mind as well as she could. He was taking everything so slowly, being so careful with her, savoring every second.
It was (ironically) everything she had ever dreamed of.
He stroked her tongue with his as he put his weight on an elbow. He tenderly held her face, unhurriedly running his thumb over her cheek bone, as if checking for evidence of tears. He pulled away just long enough for both of them to catch a quick breath, to see the longing in the other’s eyes, and then descended on her body again. She felt whole with his body pressed so closely to hers, with him in her arms. So warm in his arms, so at homein her own house for the first time in years.
Home is wherever he is,she realized.
He caught her bottom lip between his teeth, tugging gently, and he stole the moan from her throat. Pleasure undulated through her limbs before settling in her stomach, coiling and unfurling. She became more confident in her explorations of his mouth and traced his lips with curiosity and wonder, gliding over his tongue with hers. She his groan resonated through his chest into hers. She felt that deep sound everywhere and pulled him closer.
She loved being kissed. She loved being held. She loved being caressed. She loved feeling another heartbeat on her. She loved simply being touched. She loved loving him.
Mismatched orbs looked into jade ones. The man nodded slowly, and stifling a yawn, Sakura took a seat beside him. They were at a water tower overlooking the peaceful village of Konoha at the early hours of the morning. Most of the people are still asleep, save for a select few. For a few minutes, they didn’t bother to fill the silence with words.
Sasuke looked beside him to study her profile. She had her eyes closed, but there was a serene smile on her face, almost hiding the fact that she’s tired. “Are you done with work?”
The medic opened her eyes and directed the said smile at him. “Yeah. I was supposed to be finished by ten, but an emergency surgery came up.” Another yawn. “But it’s okay. It’s my day off now.”
He frowned a little at that. “Then you should go home and sleep. You need to rest, Sakura.”
She stubbornly shook her head no. “There’s still a bit of adrenaline in my veins. Plus, I saw you here and thought you might need some company,” she admitted, smiling widely at him with a warmth that is distinctly hers.
