“Oh, c’mon. Smile, Sasuke-kun!”

His expression remains unimpressed, but he allows Sakura to take a picture anyway. A bright flash fills the room, and then her mother’s old camera spits out a freshly developed photo, Sasuke’s face serious, sharp with fond annoyance.

(And here is the truth they both know: he never tolerates anything if he doesn’t want to do it.)

The picture is better this way, Sakura decides. It shows Sasuke, her Sasuke, as he really is.

SasuSaku Month 2017 – Photograph

Note: Real-world AU!

“Papa look!” A 5 year old Sarada points her fingers towards the window in the kitchen.

Said man looks at the object his daughter was pointing at, and his eyes widen. Outside in their backyard, there was a red hawk sitting on the cherry tree. It was a beautiful, yet, unusual to see them in the suburban area of Tokyo.

He was so enchanted that he did something out of character, he grabs his cellphone and takes a quick picture of it through the glass window.

“Papa it flew away.” Sarada was disappointed, but Sasuke could only smile at his photography skills. He couldn’t wait until his wife comes home tonight from her medical conference at Kyoto.

“Finish your lunch Sarada, and afterwards I’ll take you the park.” He promises her.

10:00 pm…

“I’m home.” Sakura ’s tired voice echoes through the living room.

Frowning at not receiving an answer from Sasuke she calls for him but only squeaks when she suddenly feels arms wrapping around her waist.

“I missed you.” The soothing voice of her husband calms her down.

I’ve only been gone for three days. Anything interesting that happened?“ She asks. She sees Sasuke take out his phone and gives it to her.

She gasps at the picture in her hands.

“When?” She was slightly disappointed that she missed seeing the hawk in person.

“Today afternoon.” He smirks as he takes her hand in his and kisses it. “Haven’t you heard that the hawk will always return to the sakura tree?”

SasuSaku Month 2017
Day 10: Photograph

It’s one of those rare occasions when Sasuke stays longer
than a week in one place during his travels. As he returns one afternoon to the
inn the innkeeper calls out to him before he can head to his room. “This
arrived earlier for you, sir.” He takes the package and nods a thanks before he
retires to his quarters.

He places the box in the table, it’s a medium sized wrapped
in gift paper more fit for a baby shower than anything else. It is baby blue
with small ducklings, the same they had used to wrap Boruto’s first birthday
present.

He sets the navy blue ribbon aside and opens the box. It
contains an assortment of snacks, the tomato flavored potato chips he’ll never
admit he loves, the sweet cherry chocolate Sakura loves and forces him to eat,
and Sarada’s favorite the sour candy shaped in the form of little toads.

It’s a taste of home and he smiles at the small message on
the snacks. Eat this and think of us.

There are a bunch of letters wrapped in a yellow ribbon and Sarada written on them in messy
handwriting.

And then there’s a single letter, apart from the rest. Sakura, it reads in her elegant writing
that she uses on reports. He opens her letter and two pieces of paper fall out.
Just a little something to keep us with
you always.

There’s a photograph of those he loves most in the world.
Sarada smiles brightly hugging her panda bear to her so tightly that the bears
head looks as if it were about to explode. She sits in her mother’s lap, Sakura
looks tired but yet she smiles.

Sasuke wants nothing more than to be back home.
