SasuSaku Month – Day 16: That Day || [Fanfic] In Sickness and in Health

Title: In Sickness and in Health

Rating: K+/PG

Notes: No, I haven’t forgotten about Day 15, but I had to change the order in the Prompts so they could fit the story. At first, I was going to go with the original order, but nothing I wrote satisfied me (besides this, I suddenly came up with an idea for the prompt inspired by an unexpected information about snakes that I came across on a book but I couldn’t match it with my original idea…). So, I decided to swap them and finally, the chapter started to have some sense.

What happens to Sasuke here is loosely inspired by ch. 9 of one of my favourite josei manga, Hapi Mari by Enjouji Maki. It’s a good reading in case you’re intersted in the genre and haven’t taken a look at it yet (≧∇≦*)

Also, as I said before that I would do, I want to tell you that this is the second to last chapter of this story. Finally, Sasuke and Sakura will get their ending on the next instalment (I hope to finish it on time for the end of the SSM, since tomorrow I’m having a very busy day…)

As always, if there’s something wrong (spaces, brackets…), please, tell me. I hope you enjoy it 🙂

IN SICKNESS AND IN HEALTH

With great care, Sakura put the crystal and silver flower hairpin on the side of the braided bun she wore that day and secured it, looking in the mirror of the changing room to check that it was in the perfect place.

Sakura hummed as she tended her beloved garden. Being the number one medic in the village kept her real busy, but when she finds time to relax, she would stay with the flowers she and her daughter planted.

“Ne mama, you’ve been staring at those daffodils for a while now,” Sarada pointed out.

She smiled as she touched one of the flower’s petal. “Daffodils is just… special to me, Sarada.”

“Why, mama?”

The pinkette felt giddy as a blush spread across her cheeks. “Your papa used daffodils to propose to me.”

“Eh?” Sarada went closer, her eyes sparkling. “You never told me that story, mama.”

A wide grin was her response. She placed a flower under her nose and inhaled deeply. “Even during winter it keeps its beauty, never losing to the cold. A strong flower that waits for the hope of spring…”

She turned towards her daughter, a smile never leaving her face. “When your papa was hospitalized when we were genin, I would come every day and place daffodils at the bedside table. I though he didn’t notice back then… but he apparently did.” Sakura looked up, the memory forever caved in her heart. “One day, we found a field full of daffodils…”

.

.

“Wow! There’s so many daffodils ne Sasuke-kun?”

“Hn.” He looked on as she twirled around with her arms spread wide. Butterflies were dancing around and Sakura joined them in their happiness. After a while, they sat down under the shade of a tree to relax.

“Spring is really here, ne?”

He nodded. “The flowers are signs that spring has arrived.”

Sakura rested her head on his shoulder, a gesture both mutually liked. “It’s also the flower you gave to me when I was hospitalized years ago, right Sakura?” Sasuke added.

She moved away to look at him, shock evident in her features. He smirked and intertwined their hands together. “Did you think I didn’t notice and forgot?”

“I… well, uh…” The pinkette turned away, her cheeks blushing. He made her turn to look at him by handing out three daffodils to her.

“S-Sasuke-kun?”

“Will you… spend the rest of your life… with me, as my wife?” Sasuke looked at her earnestly, almost afraid that she’ll say no.

Happy tears filled her eyes and her grin was so wide it almost hurts. “Yes, Sasuke-kun. Of course I will!”

.

.

Sakura placed both hands on her cheeks as she tries to keep her blush at bay, still feeling giddy. Sarada looked on smiling, ecstatic to see her mama so happy.

On the other side of the world, a certain raven haired man with mismatched eyes held a daffodil close to his heart, wanting to come home to his spring.

Title: At Last
Summary: The day Sakura found out she was pregnant was quite one to
remember indeed.
Disclaimer: I don’t own Naruto.
Prompt: That Day
Rating: M
A/N: While I don’t believe they planned to have a baby on the road,
this is still a fun and cute scenario to think about. I had lots of fun writing
this 🙂

It wasn’t exactly how she’d ever pictured
she would find out: sitting in the middle of a forest, tending to a campfire,
watching the love of her life training aggressively against the trunk of an old
tree, the warmest smile to her lips—and then, a faint thrumming sensation, odd
and completely unfamiliar, sparking low in her belly.

Bemused, Sakura looked down on herself and
blinked, touching a palm to her abdomen. An infection, perhaps? she mused,
brows furrowing. Shaking her head, the thought was dismissed near-instantly;
no, that wasn’t possible—in all her years of experience, she knew with
certainty that infections had never been capable of throwing chakra paths off
route so much.

Growing evermore perplexed, Sakura simply
summoned forth the most basic of her medical techniques, setting about a
curious exploration to her body. It was only seconds before she found herself
stiffening rigidly, brilliant mind blanking and green eyes snapping wide,
rendered entirely speechless by her discovery.

It wasn’t an infection—she’d been right
about that. And it wasn’t an instability in her chakra channels either—in fact,
there was absolutely nothing wrong
with her.

No, she was simply… pregnant.

Her heart stuttered in her chest. A flurry
of warmth washed over the whole of her. Pregnant, she thought again, feeling
the sweet pulse of this new chakra.

Rating: T

Pairing: SasuSaku

Summary: Sasuke will always remember that day. The day his daughter was born. The day his wife nearly died. The day he opened himself up to one more being.

A/N: Oh my god. This took way longer than I anticipated… I was planning to have it done days ago. I feel bad being this late with a prompt, but I still hope you guys like it! I really have not proofread this one nearly as well as the others, but I think I could do that tomorrow. It’s so late here, and I need to get up for work soon. I did some research on birth, since I don’t have kids and i’m by no means a medical professional. But yeah, hope you like this fic! (~4000 words)

Flirting with Death
2. That Day

She was only nine or ten when it happened.

She was wandering through the woods after a heavy rain, and had stopped to watch the swollen creek rush under the old stone bridge.

She’d been warned like all of the children were warned (or twice as much, by her reckoning, because she was a visitor and apparently couldn’t be expected to keep such warnings in her head) the rainy season brought the rapids, and she dutifully promised to stay away from them. She contented herself with letting her mind wander, coaxed by the calm of the woods and the white noise of the creek.

She didn’t know what made her look up – maybe she had heard something – but when she did, she spotted the boy on the other bank.

He was dressed in dark clothing and leaning against a tree with his arms crossed, just watching her.

She frowned at him and called out in challenge.

“Well? What are you looking at?”

He blinked once or twice before looking around.

“What’s the matter?” she crossed her arms. “Too rude to answer?”

His stand-offish air melted into incredulity.

“You can… see me?”

“Of course I can see you,” she scoffed. “You aren’t that far away.“

Day 16: That Day

Part two of an old drabble.

She couldn’t help but watch him after that day, he hadn’t
approached her since, hadn’t even glanced in her direction. After that day’s
incident with Kiba he had once again retreated to his shell and it was like he
had stopped existing for everyone else. She felt as if only she could see him.

She had learned a few things about the solitary Uchiha, he
really had no one in life, he had no friends, no one to pick him up or come to
school events. He would never talk not unless asked a direct question, and even
then he would respond in monosyllables and short to-the-point sentences.

And maybe the most troubling, that he had nothing to live
for.

He didn’t care about tomorrow. He never handed in homework,
never handed any college applications, and sometimes he didn’t even know what
day of the week it was.

Her heart broke for the boy with the dark eyes.

He was absent for three days, the teacher had asked him if
he had an excuse and as uninterested as ever his reply was a simple, “No.” She
found herself staring at him, looking for any signs of self-harm, any signs
that he had tried to leave the world behind. But she found none that she could
see.

He turned to her then and found her gaze on him. She opened
her mouth to say something but before she could even figure out what to say he
had already turned away from her.

That day after school it was raining, the sky seemed to be
falling down. A torrential rain fell with thunder erupting from the sky.
Students crowded near the entrance waiting for the rain to stop. In the
distance she could see someone walking in the rain, she could barely make him
out in the distance.

She took out her umbrella and ran into the rain, it didn’t
take long to catch up to him. “Wait!” She exclaimed, to her surprise he stopped
at the sound on her voice. She walked up to him close enough that she could
cover him with her umbrella.

“It’s raining, if you walk around like that you’ll catch a
cold.” She told him.

“It doesn’t matter.” He replied simply his voice coarse and
dry. She smiled sadly at him.

“It matters.” Confusion took over his expression and she saw
the question hanging at the tip of his tongue. Why? “Because you exist, silly.” She smiled up at him, hoping to
take some of his sadness away.

Despite himself the corner of his lips turned upward and a
small smile spread across his lips. “Thank you.”

That day she found out something about herself as well, she
wanted to make him smile. Every day, brighter and brighter.
